When Alethia and her husband, Austin, decided to forfeit a destination honeymoon, they were a little disappointed. “We bought a wedding and a house in the same six weeks,” Alethia said. “We thought it would be a good idea to stay close to home for our honeymoon.” Their decision ended up being one of the best they’ve ever made.
“The Santa Ynez Inn is so romantic – from the décor to the design of the space,” she said. “And, when we walked into the room, we found a congratulatory note from the staff and two chocolates. It was so sweet and the best surprise.”
The couple won a night’s stay at the Santa Ynez Inn in the month’s prior to their wedding. “We thought it would be the perfect way to start our lives together – enjoying wine country and the inn,” she said. They chose the inn because of its reputation of superior customer service, elegant rooms and amenities.
The newlyweds enjoyed every moment they spent in their first couple of days. “From the breakfast to the afternoon wine and cheese, it was just what we needed.” On day three, they were at check out and owner Doug Ziegler encouraged them to stay another night.
“We enjoyed dinner at Grappolo’s and spent time in Solvang and Los Olivos,” she said. “We wanted to continue to explore the area, and the inn’s staff was so nice. We didn’t want to leave.”
And now, Alethia and Austin plan their anniversary every year with the Santa Ynez Inn. Must-see destinations are Lincourt and Rideau wineries, Petros Restaurant and the Vineyard.
Alethia has also made her stay at the inn a family affair. “My parents have also visited the area with us. We look forward to seeing the staff – Rick, Christina, Jessica and Armando,” she said. “They’ve become part of our extended family.”
“One night, we started the fireplace, borrowed a DVD from the library, and had movie night,” she said. “We had some snacks and beverages in the refrigerator – it was a perfect way to end the day.”
And, because they plan their annual trip at the end of December until early January, she said, “It’s the perfect end to the year, as well as the ideal start to the new year.”
